Orientation

The orientation of a building with reference to true east is important for natural lighting on both walls equally throughout the year. Thus building orientations are linked to celestial bodies. The Victoria Memorial follows the same orientation of the St. Paul’s Cathedral.  Both are optimized for Kolkata latitude as shown in the video.    

Natural Ventilation

Natural ventilation is a tradition in many heritage buildings in India. Victoria Memorial is no exception. Elaborate systems have been installed in the edifice as shown in this video clip.    

Condensation issues

In a wet climate, condensation and accumulation of water droplet inside a conditioned building is not unusual.  Similar incident is taking place in the Victoria Memorial Hall as shown in this video clip.   

Capital planning & Victoria

A number of elements found in classical European cities were introduced in Victoria Memorial Hall design but without explicit mention probably because Lord Curzon believed that British domination would last for ever as shown in this video clip.

Symbolism (Dan Brown Game)

The author Dan Brown cooked truth and distorted truths into a nail biting thriller called Da Vinci Code. In the heart of it was the assumption that symbols of masons, a middle age guild, was imprinted in cities like London and Paris.  Similar symbols are also available in Victoria Memorial Hall as shown in this clip.
